How to create an elegant, flavorful dish for your next dinner party

Sometimes going traditional is always the easiest way to go to host your next dinner party. I've received numerous inquiries about hosting a dinner party but most of them are simple American, Italian or Latin cuisine--- "boring". How about mind blowing food that becomes the entertainment of the party? The  music and crazy mixed drinks are not the only things that can make a party fun.  If you want to have a fancy, top notch dinner party you need to consider these steps before you start bringing ideas to the table or hiring your traditional caterer or restaurant who is limited when it comes to menu options.

Be open to the different cuisines around the world

The world is big, really big, so why not use what's there to offer? Be open to major culinary cuisine that is trending around the world such as Asian, Italian, French, Caribbean, African, Mexican, South American, Tex-Mex, Thai, and hundreds more. Pick 3-4 major cuisines you and your guests will enjoy and research them. If you do not know what your guests will enjoy, simply mail or email them an invitation with cuisine options,

Spices and culinary techniques from around the world

Now that you have chosen your cuisine preference, its time to break it down by spices and techniques. Every cuisine around the world is different based on techniques and spices that are available or grown in that area. For example, asian cuisine uses soy for flavor and the main cooking method is using a wok, Indian cuisine uses curry for flavor and main cooking method is using a cask iron pot. Research techniques and spices you prefer. After you figure out what spices and culinary technique you would like to use its time to brainstorm about your plating technique.

It's plating time

After figuring out which cuisine, spice and technique you like to use, it's time to figure out a plating technique, There are so many ways to create a perfect plated dish, but first you must consider the portion size and colors for each item you're using. Each item you're using must compliment each other. For example, if you're using salmon, fruits and vegetables, the main point of interest is your salmon. Since you know your salmon will be the big hit, place it where it will capture you guests eyes instantly. You can use rich colored lettuce as the bed of the salmon and scatter vegetables and fruits around it. Now you have a variety of colors and flavors that compliment each other, To top it off, create a floral design with carrots which gives the dish a more romantic display. This will surely wow your guests.

Wine tasting
Now that you have created a dish like a master chef, think of a wine that will go perfect with your dish. From red, white and spirits, there are so many options to choose from. Contact a local winery or stop by  and simply ask questions and inform the representative of what you are trying to do. Once you figure out a wine that pairs well with your dish,  purchase the wine from you local winery to save money. I know there's "google" and you can do your research online but do not purchase anything before you get a sample taste and always make sure it is a reputable company.
